This web site was created using totally free software, on a PC running
a totally free operating system.
- My desktop PC runs Mint, a version of the
Linux operating system. It can be downloaded from http://linuxmint.com. Not only is the
Linux operating system free, but so is all of the
application software. No virus or spyware problems either, and the
community support is fantastic. Why doesn't everybody use it?
- I used the Kompozer wysiwyg HTML editor to build the web
site. It is available in Linux, Mac and Windows versions, all free from
http://kompozer.net
- I used the free graphics program Gimp to edit my photos and
create graphical elements for my web site. Again free in Linux, Mac and
Windows versions from http://www.gimp.org,
this is a standard part of
most Linux distributions.
- The photo album web pages were created automatically from
my photo folders using the excellent free program Plogger from http://www.plogger.org.
